The UFC seems to want Khamzat Chimaev to keep competing at welterweight.

The anticipated trilogy fight between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards will on

the same event as Chimaev vs. Colby Covington, according to Dana White, who spoke with The MacLife.

Chimaev's most recent match at UFC 279 saw him fall 7.5 pounds short of the welterweight criteria.

The significant weight miss led to a change of opponents. He switched from Kevin

Holland to Nate Diaz before finishing Kevin Holland with a first-round submission.

Covington was formerly UFC President Dana White's choice to play against Chimaev.

White planned to pair Chimaev and Covington in case "Borz" won their fight before Chimaev faced Gilbert Burns at UFC 273.

Since defeating former colleague Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision at UFC 272 in March, Covington (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) hasn't competed.

Masvidal is charged with attacking Covington outside a Miami Beach restaurant a few weeks after the altercation.

Masvidal was apprehended and charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
